What we require
Before installation, your base must be:
Level – No dips, slopes, or uneven areas
Solid – Able to support the full weight of the building
accurate – Measurements must match your building size
If your base doesn’t meet these requirements before installation day, we won’t be able to install your building.
Why Your Base Matters
Your base is the foundation of your building. If the base is not suitable:
- Doors may drop or not close properly
- Panels can twist or warp
- Water can enter the building
- The structure may become unstable over time
Put simply, even the best building will fail on a poorly prepared base.
Bases that we love ❤️
A smooth concrete base is a solid, level foundation made from poured concrete, finished flat to provide a clean and stable surface. It offers excellent durability, supports heavy garden buildings with ease, and requires minimal maintenance, making it the most reliable long-term base option.
A concrete slab base is created using individual paving slabs laid on a properly prepared and level sub-base, typically consisting of compacted hardcore and sand. It provides a strong, stable surface suitable for most garden buildings, while being more cost-effective and easier to install than a full poured concrete base.
A railway sleeper base is constructed using pressure-treated timber sleepers laid on a level, compacted sub-base such as hardcore and gravel. The sleepers are typically spaced evenly to support the building’s floor bearers, providing a strong, well-ventilated foundation that works well on grass or soil.
An eco pad base is made from interlocking recycled plastic grids that sit on a level, compacted sub-base of hardcore and gravel. The pads provide a stable, free-draining foundation that helps prevent water build-up under the building, while allowing airflow beneath the floor. It’s a quick, clean, and environmentally friendly option when installed on properly prepared ground.

A timber base, such as our EZ Base, is a pressure-treated wooden framework designed to create a strong, level platform for your building. It can be installed directly onto the ground and supported on timber legs, which are either cut or staked to suit the ground conditions, helping to raise the building slightly and improve airflow underneath.

bases that we don't like 💔
Uneven paving slabs are not suitable as a base. Any dips or height differences will affect the building, causing doors to misalign, gaps to appear, and unnecessary stress on the structure. A base must be level and fully supportive to ensure a proper installation and long-term durability.
Hardcore or loose gravel on its own is not suitable as a base. While it can be used as a foundation layer, it does not provide a solid, level surface for a building to sit on. Over time, the material can shift and settle, causing the building to move, become uneven, and lead to issues such as sticking doors, gaps, and structural stress.
An uneven concrete base is not suitable for installation. While concrete is strong, any dips, slopes, or high spots will transfer directly into the building. This can cause doors and windows to misalign, gaps to appear, and place unnecessary stress on the frame. Over time, this can lead to twisting and reduce the lifespan of the building.

space around your building?
We require a minimum of 8 inches (200mm) of clear space and a minimum of 16 inches (400mm) around your building when a guttering kit is included. This allows for safe and efficient installation, as well as proper access for our fitting team. Where possible, we recommend allowing as much as possible, as additional space makes installation easier and helps with long-term maintenance, airflow, and access around the building.
Key Benefits:
• Easier and safer installation for our fitting team
• Improves airflow around the building, reducing moisture build-up
• Makes future maintenance, treatment, and cleaning much easier
• Prevents damage from fences, walls, or plants being too close
