Terms and Conditions

MCD Garden Buildings Terms and Conditions Including Finance Orders and Plain-English What Happens If…

Guide MCD Home & Garden (UK) Ltd (trading as MCD Garden Buildings) Unit 12, Albion Road, Carlton Industrial Estate, Barnsley S71 3HW It is important that you read and understand these terms and conditions. If you have any questions or require clarification on any point, please get in touch within 7 days of receiving this document.

1. Our Contract

1.1. These Terms and Conditions govern the supply of goods sold by MCD Home & Garden (UK) Ltd of Unit 12, Albion Road, Carlton Industrial Estate, Barnsley S71 3HW (“we” and “us”) to the customer (“you”) and constitute the entire agreement between us in relation thereto.

1.2. All orders placed by you are based on these Terms and Conditions and are subject to acceptance by us upon written order confirmation, at which point a legally binding contract is formed between us. The processing of your payment or acknowledgement of your order does not, by itself, amount to legal acceptance of your order.

2. Price and Payment

2.1. The price payable for the goods you order is as set out either over the phone or on our website at the time you place your order, plus any charges for delivery and installation as advised to you.

2.2. We reserve the right to update the price of goods from time to time, but we will confirm the prevailing price with you before accepting your order. We are not obliged to accept your order and may decline it or limit the quantity of goods sold.

2.3. At no point will we offer retrospective discounts in relation to any sale or price reduction after your order is placed. 2.4. Occasionally, an error may occur and goods may be incorrectly priced, in which circumstances we will not be obliged to supply the goods at the incorrect price.

2.5. All orders are subject to a minimum 25% deposit upfront followed by the remainder being paid 2 working days before dispatch or installation of the goods, unless otherwise agreed in writing by us.

2.6. You may not withhold payment of any invoice or other amount due to us by reason of any right of set off or counter-claim which you may have, or allege to have.

2.7. We shall be entitled at all times to set off any debt or claim which we may have against you against any sums due from you to us.

2.8. The format of our invoices and statements to you will solely be dictated by us and we will not enter into any variation of that format.

2.9. Any “Was” price displayed on the website shows the item’s previous selling price for a period of at least 30 days prior to the reduced price coming into effect, unless otherwise stated.

2.10. Any outstanding balance on garden buildings must be cleared 2 working days before the installation date. If the outstanding balance is not cleared within this timescale, your delivery and fitting will not take place and you will begin to accrue storage charges of £10 per day until the balance is cleared and an installation date is rearranged. The rearranged delivery and installation is chargeable at 150% of your initial delivery and installation fee. If you have benefitted from free delivery and fitting, a charge of £150 is payable. Any alternative payment methods must be agreed in writing by a member of our team in advance.

3. Delivery

3.1. Delivery times of garden buildings quoted at the time of order are estimates and cannot be guaranteed. Whilst we will make every effort to deliver within the estimated delivery time, occasionally deliveries may be affected by factors beyond our control. Due to the number of orders on our books at one time, we do not give interim updates. As soon as we can offer you a date, we will be in touch by phone to arrange this.

3.2. The following applies to mini-sheds and garden tidy buildings only. Delivery is by third-party courier on an all-day call. We cannot give approximate arrival times and you must be available all day. If the courier arrives and you are not in, it cannot be left and you will be charged a redelivery fee of £85.00. Due to the size of your garden tidy it will be delivered on a pallet and left kerbside. It is your responsibility to get the mini-shed into your property. You must check the contents thoroughly before signing for the delivery. If you have signed for the goods as having arrived in good condition, we cannot claim for any damage and will not cover the costs of repair or replacement parts. The pallet on which the mini-shed is delivered is left with you and the courier will not take this away.

4. Installation Service

4.1. Once your order is placed, our team will be in touch approximately 2 to 3 weeks before the workshop begins construction of your garden building to give you your delivery and fitting date. It is not necessary to contact us prior to this to ask for updates, as we will be in touch as soon as required. During the ordering and confirmation process you will have been asked for dates to avoid. Your fitting date will be scheduled with the information that you have provided to us in mind. Unless you have informed us before you are called with your date that there are other dates to avoid or that you are not ready, the date we give you is the only date we can install your building, as each run is scheduled with building sizes, localities, and travelling times in mind. Once it is booked into our fitting diary the date cannot be changed, it is not possible to give you an alternative date. If you tell us that the delivery date you have already confirmed is no longer suitable, any outstanding balance is still due and payable and the garden building will be delivered on the agreed date but left for self-assembly. No refund will be due of any delivery and installation charge paid.

4.2. If an installation service has been requested, you must provide suitable access and a flat, level, and square base capable of carrying considerable weight. You must check that your whole base is level with an instrument capable of confirming that the base is perfectly horizontal. It is important that your garden building is erected on an adequate base. If the base is not level it could result in doors twisting and sticking, walls warping, and the roof becoming distorted. Buildings erected on unlevel bases will not be covered by a guarantee and it is the customer’s responsibility to check that the base is adequate before the date of fitting. MCD Home & Garden will not be held responsible for inadequate base preparation.

4.3. We do not inspect the suitability of your base to support the building without ground movement and we do not check the integrity of the base. Our installers are not engineers. Any problems with the products that arise from inadequate support from the base are the responsibility of the customer.

4.4. If you have purchased the MCD EZ Base, the following conditions apply. The MCD EZ Base must be preordered and cannot be offered on site. It cannot be installed on ground that holds water or collects excess water during rainfall. If it is to be installed on soft ground, this ground must not be loose soil, flower beds, or similar. Any soil must be compacted well enough to hold the weight of the building. An EZ Base is not suitable for use on compacted hardcore as this is too variable for legs and too compact for stakes.

4.4.1. If the ground preparation is inadequate or the ground is not suitable for the EZ Base, the building may be left on site for self-assembly. No refund will be due of any delivery and installation charge paid. If you require a return installation visit, a charge of 150% of the initial delivery and fitting fee will be payable before we schedule your return visit. If you have benefitted from free delivery and installation, a charge of £150 is payable before we schedule your return installation visit.

4.4.2. The maximum that the ground can be out of level for an EZ Base, from the highest point to the lowest point, is 30cm / 12 inches / 1 foot. If the prepared ground does not meet this requirement, our fitters will leave the building for self-assembly.

4.4.3. The MCD EZ Base is not clad as standard. Our fitters do not carry enough spare timber to create skirting and the responsibility to do this is that of the customer. Should you require this service, it must be prepurchased.

4.4.4. The MCD EZ Base, like all newly laid foundations, is subject to settlement. Settlement is not a cause for concern. Any adjustments that may become necessary after the building and EZ Base have settled are not part of the installation service and should be carried out by the customer.

4.5. The site should be clear of overhanging branches or obstructions, excess animal excrement, and general clutter and have sufficient unobstructed access around the site for the safe erection and future maintenance of the building. For example, an 8ft wide building will not fit in an 8ft wide gap.

4.6. If your base is unsuitable, the consequences below will apply depending on the type of building ordered. 4.6.1. For standard non-insulated buildings, the product may be left on site for self-assembly. Alternatively, you may be given the option to purchase an EZ Base if site conditions permit. A charge of 150% of the initial delivery and installation fee, plus the cost of the EZ Base where applicable, will be payable before we schedule your return visit. If you have benefitted from free delivery and fitting, a charge of £150 plus the cost of the EZ Base will be payable before we schedule your return installation visit.

4.6.2. For insulated buildings, garden rooms, and buildings with an internal T&G finish, the building cannot be left on site if installation cannot proceed due to an unsuitable base. Because of their insulated construction, internal T&G cladding requirements, and/or uPVC components, the building and associated materials must be returned to our premises. In these circumstances, the installation will only be rearranged once the base has been corrected. A charge equal to 150% of the original delivery and fitting fee, plus an additional £300 handling and storage charge, will apply. Where the customer has benefitted from free delivery and fitting, an aborted installation charge of £150, plus the additional £300 handling and storage charge, will apply. All such charges must be paid in full before a new installation date can be confirmed.

4.6.3. If your base is only slightly unlevel, we may, at our sole discretion, agree to continue with the installation. If we do, you may be asked to sign a disclaimer on site confirming that you have been told the base is unsuitable and that any warranty relating to problems caused by the base will be void. You may also see visible chocks or raised points under the building, and any additional finishing work, such as skirting, will be your responsibility. This clause applies only where the base is slightly unlevel and our fitters are satisfied that installation can still go ahead safely. It does not apply where the base is too small, significantly unlevel, unprepared, unstable, or where access is unsuitable.

4.7. When ordering you will be asked about access to ensure that the installation is as safe as possible. Any height restrictions such as archways, over-gate bars, tight corners, steep steps, or similar issues need to be brought to our attention during the ordering process. We cannot lift panels over walls, outhouses, garages, fences, hedges, carports, and other obstacles. When built as a full panel, most buildings will not fit through single doors and are not suitable for carrying through a house. Our fitters cannot carry these extremely heavy panels a long distance to gain access to your property, for example down streets, across busy roads, or around neighbouring properties. We cannot install on live building sites nor on allotments unless this has been agreed in writing by MCD. If you do have access issues, please let us know as we can often accommodate them with workshop changes, which may be chargeable. If we attend your property and the access is unsuitable, the building will be left for self-assembly. We do not offer a return installation service in this case.

4.8. You must ensure that the installer’s vehicle can be parked as close as possible to the installation site. We cannot drive across or park in fields or soft, boggy ground. If a parking area cannot be located nearby the site, the installation may be abandoned and the building left for self-assembly.

4.9. The responsibility to check whether planning consent is required is solely that of the customer. If you are unsure whether planning permission is required, we advise that you contact your local council’s planning department before purchasing. MCD Home & Garden UK Ltd accepts no liability for any planning issues that arise after your purchase. Not all of our buildings are under 2.5m. If you require specific height or dimension information, please request this in writing within 14 days of placing your order. Different planning rules apply depending on many variables and therefore we do not give advice regarding these issues.

4.10. Wet weather does not prevent our installation process. If your building is installed on a wet or particularly damp day, the fitters have encountered wet weather during their journey to you, or it has been stored in our yard during bad weather, the inside of your building may naturally be wet. Once the installation is complete you will need to allow your building to dry out fully before you use your building or do any further work on the inside such as insulation or lining. The best way to dry the building is to allow natural airflow by leaving your doors and windows open as much as possible during dry weather. Buildings are stored horizontally in our yard prior to installation and, if we have had rain before your fitting date, gravity will allow water to filter downwards once the building is vertical. The silicone used to seal the windows may not adhere correctly during wet weather and you may need to reseal your windows once the building has dried out fully.

4.11. If you ask us to bring your building through your home or a neighbour’s property or garden, or the access is restricted, this is at your own risk. In these circumstances, any accidental damage caused by getting the components into position will not be covered by MCD.

4.12. You will be asked to sign our fitters’ job sheet to confirm that the installation and build quality are to your satisfaction. If you contact us after the installation team have left site but have signed the work off, there will be a return charge, with a minimum of £80, for any remedial work that could have been done during the installation. If you have asked someone else to attend during the installation, they will be asked to sign off the building and the same condition applies.

4.13. If for any reason, whether by choice, due to insufficient base preparation, unsuitable access, or any other cause, the building is left for self-assembly, MCD accepts no liability for improper installation. All panels, including the roof, will be left with you in A1 condition and any subsequent claim for damage or warranty relating to customer or third-party assembly will be denied. Any adjustments, such as bolt repositioning, roof sheet alteration, or door levelling, are part of our fitting service and will need to be completed by the person carrying out the assembly.

5. Finance Orders

5.1. If you intend to use our finance facility, you must tell us at the point of order.

5.2. If you are paying by finance, you are still responsible for the full balance of your order if the installation cannot be completed or signed off for reasons that are not our fault.

5.3. This includes, for example, where the base is not suitable, access is not suitable, the building is left for selfassembly because installation cannot go ahead, the building has to be taken back to our premises because it is insulated, has an internal T&G finish, or includes uPVC parts and installation cannot go ahead, or sign-off is refused when the building has been installed as ordered and there is no genuine fault with the building or our installation.

5.4. If the finance company does not pay us because the installation cannot be signed off for a reason that is not our fault, you must pay us the outstanding balance directly.

5.5. You will also be responsible for any other charges that apply under these terms, such as delivery, fitting, handling, storage, return, or reinstallation costs.

5.6. If payment is not made, we may take legal steps to recover the money owed.

5.7. Nothing in this section affects your rights if there is a genuine problem with the building or with our installation.

6. Cancellation, Warranty Claims and Workmanship Guarantee

6.1. All of our garden buildings are made to order / bespoke and are built to the customer’s specifications. Once an order has been accepted, the deposit is non-refundable if you choose not to proceed, as materials, labour, scheduling, planning and administration will have been committed specifically to your order. This does not affect any rights you may have where we are in breach of contract or where the goods are faulty.

6.2. In the event of a manufacturing fault claim you will be required to email or post photographic evidence to Customer Services. This will provide us with the details to make a commercial decision to either repair or replace the goods.

6.3. Our 12-month workmanship guarantee covers faults in the construction or assembly of your garden building arising directly from improper assembly or construction by MCD, provided the issue is reported within 12 months of the installation date.

6.4. The workmanship guarantee does not cover damage caused by adverse weather, improper assembly by third parties, neglect, unauthorised modifications or DIY repairs, minor imperfections to steel roofs or internal linings, or buildings assembled by the customer or any third party. 6.5. If an issue arises directly due to our installation, we will repair or replace the faulty parts at no additional cost within the guarantee period. All claims will be assessed within 14 days, and if accepted, a repair or replacement will be provided at our discretion.

6.6. Wood is a naturally variable raw material. Grain characteristics such as knots, open grain, medullary rays, colour variation, finish variation, and minor alignment differences are naturally occurring and are not defects.

6.7. All timber is subject to environmental changes such as shrinkage in warm or hot weather and expansion in damp or wet weather. This is a natural characteristic of wood and is not a defect, is not grounds for rejection, and is not covered by the timber guarantee.

6.8. Timber is a natural product and the building will settle after installation. As a result, splits, cracks, and movement in the timber may occur, and minor adjustments may become necessary, including to doors and windows. Any such adjustments and repairs do not form part of the installation service and are the customer’s responsibility as part of the routine maintenance of the building. These matters are not covered by the timber guarantee. Please refer to section 11 for further information.

6.9. Our warranty does not cover any damage caused by adverse weather conditions, wind, rain, or other natural forces, accidents, improper self-assembly or disassembly, damage caused during routine maintenance, or any misuse, abuse, or neglect by the customer.

6.10. Minor imperfections to the steel roof or the internal lining caused during manufacturing, transport, or installation are not considered faults and will not give rise to replacement or compensation.

6.11. The customer is responsible for ordering the correct size building. We can offer guidance, but the decision is ultimately that of the customer. All quoted dimensions are approximate, including depth, width, height, and finished timber sizes, and are for guidance only. If you require exact measurements, please request them in writing before you place an order.

6.12. Our building designs may evolve over time and there may therefore be minor cosmetic differences between the products displayed in our showroom or on our website and the product supplied. Such changes do not constitute a fault and are not grounds for rejection.

7. Liability

7.1. If you have notified us of a problem with your garden building within 30 days of delivery, we will, subject to clause 6.2, replace or repair any goods that are damaged or defective upon delivery.

7.2. We shall have no liability to pay any money to you by way of compensation other than any refund we make under these conditions. Our liability to you shall not include losses related to any business of yours, such as loss of profits or business interruption, nor will we be responsible to you for any other loss which is not a foreseeable consequence of us being in breach of these Terms and Conditions or our legal duties.

7.3. This does not affect your statutory rights if you are a consumer, nor is it intended to exclude our liability to you for fraudulent misrepresentation or for death or personal injury resulting from our negligence.

7.4. If you are a trade customer we will not be responsible to you or, if you are undertaking work for another person, to any other person, for the use or installation of any goods by you. Accordingly, if you are a trade customer, you agree to hold us harmless and indemnify us against any liability associated with any claim or allegation that we are responsible for any failings in the installation or use of goods that we supply.

7.5. You must not schedule any other works, such as electrical installation or insulating, until after your building installation has been completed.

7.6. If your goods are collected by yourself or a third party on your behalf, liability for damage or defective items passes to the customer when the goods leave our possession.

8. Termination

8.1. We may suspend further supply or delivery, stop any goods in transit, or terminate our contract by notice in writing to you if you are in breach of an obligation under these terms, become unable to pay your debts when they fall due, or proceedings are commenced by or against you alleging bankruptcy or insolvency. Upon termination, any payments you owe to us, even if not yet due for payment, will be immediately due and payable and we shall be under no further obligation to supply goods to you.

9. Force Majeure

9.1. We shall have no liability to you for any failure or delay in supply or delivery, or for any damage or defect to goods supplied or delivered hereunder, that is caused by any event or circumstance beyond our reasonable control, including pandemics, strikes, lockouts, and other industrial disputes.

10. General

10.1. If any part of these conditions is invalid, illegal, or unenforceable, including any provision in which we exclude our liability to you, the validity, legality, or enforceability of any other part of these conditions will not be affected. This contract shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with English law.

11. Care and Maintenance

11.1. You will be provided with a care guide by email after placing your order which details how to keep your garden building in great condition. This includes treatment, adjustments, maintenance, and guttering. You must adhere to the directives within the guide to ensure your warranty is not invalidated. The advice we give you is the advice you should follow. Guidance you read elsewhere online or suggestions from individuals not connected to MCD Home & Garden may not apply to our buildings.

11.2. All timber used in our manufacturing process is brand new, freshly cut timber. The first couple of months of your garden building being exposed to the elements is the time that most characteristic changes will occur. After the timber has aged and settled you are less likely to see significant changes.

11.3. All of our timber is supplied pressure treated, however this does not make timber waterproof. You will need to coat your building using a weatherproof preservative that is suitable for use on outdoor, smooth-planed, treated timber. We recommend doing this within 8 weeks of installation, as soon as the timber is completely dry. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions and re-coat according to their advice.

11.4. Any knots and splits that appear are due to the natural drying and settling process and are not considered a defect. Use a natural-coloured wood filler to fill these in and follow the manufacturer’s instructions on any product that you use.

11.5. Your door bolt and/or hinges may need realigning after the shed has settled. This is classed as maintenance and will not be done by MCD. uPVC doors may also need adjustment after the building has settled; this is classed as maintenance and will not be carried out by MCD. If required, adjustment instructions can be requested from customer service.

11.6. It may be necessary to reseal the windows using a clear weatherproof silicone where the acrylic meets the timber frame after the shed has settled.

11.7. We always advise fitting guttering to your new garden building. This allows you to direct water runoff to the best drainage point or to a water butt.

11.8. Thumb turns are fitted to double doors only. They must be used at all times that the doors are closed. This stops the leading door from twisting in changeable weather.

11.9. If your building has joiner-made doors, the inside of the doors must be protected at the same time as the outside to help prevent excess shrinkage and expansion. As with all timber components, joiner-made doors are subject to natural movement and changes outside our control. Ongoing maintenance of these doors remains the responsibility of the customer, just as it would with a standard shed door, and this may include adjustments to hinges and other ironmongery. If the timber shrinks during dry weather, you may find it helpful to add a draught strip between the doors to allow for expansion again during damper conditions. The doors will operate correctly at the point of installation, and any maintenance required after that point is the responsibility of the customer.

11.10. After a dry spell, your cladding may shrink, twist, and/or warp and expose areas that have not been painted. These boards will expand again during damp, humid, or wet weather. This is beyond the control of MCD and is not covered by the timber guarantee. If there is a sudden downpour after a dry spell, you may see evidence of water ingress, even if you have painted your building. This is due to shrinkage, which is a natural characteristic of timber, and is not covered under the guarantee.

11.11. Our garden building fitters are employed to install your buildings and do not give advice on care and maintenance. You should refer to your care guide or our customer service team if you have any queries regarding your building. Only information given to you in writing by MCD should be relied upon.

11.12. Extreme temperatures can cause uPVC frames to expand or shrink and therefore your doors and windows may not move as smoothly as expected. Wiping the frame with cold water can sometimes help to reduce expansion slightly. If the problem is not too severe, it may also help to wait until cooler or warmer weather to see if it resolves naturally. If the issue does not resolve after this, hinge adjustment may be required. Please contact customer service and a copy of the adjustment instructions will be provided.

12. Customised Buildings

12.1. We build all of our garden buildings to order.

12.2. Any customisations you request will be completed with the materials that we supply as part of our standard specification. We will endeavour to keep to your requested layout but slight differences may occur due to the width of the timber, roof material, framing, and similar factors.

12.3. If you ask us to replicate the layout of a building made by another supplier, we can work to the same general concept but cannot guarantee the exact same finished look.

12.4. If you want to clad or insulate the building internally but have not chosen to purchase these options through MCD, you may need to install extra timber framing to facilitate this. MCD does not supply this as standard as the cost of the extra framing used when we insulate/clad a building is part of the service we supply.

13. Service with Respect

13.1. Our staff will always treat you with respect and we expect the same in return. Our fitters and office staff have the right to work in an environment free from abuse, harassment, and sexual harassment, and we operate a zero-tolerance policy.

13.2. Unacceptable behaviour includes violence, threats, abusive, offensive, intimidating, or inappropriate language or behaviour, whether written or verbal, sexual harassment, escalating agitation, intimidating body language, unreasonable demands, unreasonable levels of contact, and unreasonable use of our processes, including the complaints process.

13.3. Our staff are encouraged to report abusive, threatening, harassing, or sexually inappropriate behaviour and one or more of the following may be a consequence: we may cancel your order without notice, your building may be left for self-assembly or the fitting abandoned. Where necessary to protect our staff, we may restrict the ways in which we communicate with you, including limiting contact to written communication only or blocking particular communication channels.

What Happens If…

We want your installation to go as smoothly as possible. Below are some of the most common situations that can come up before, during, and after installation, and what the outcome is if they do. This section is a plain-English guide and should be read alongside our full Terms and Conditions.

What happens if my base is not suitable?

If your base is not level, square, stable, or otherwise suitable for the building ordered, we may not be able to carry out the installation. It is your responsibility to make sure the base is fully prepared before the agreed fitting date. For standard non-insulated buildings, the building may be left on site for self-assembly. In some cases, if site conditions allow, you may be offered an EZ Base and a return installation visit. Extra charges may apply in line with our terms.

What happens if the base is not suitable for an insulated building, garden room, or a building with an internal T&G finish?

If our installation team arrives and the base is not level, square, suitable, or otherwise fit for installation, we may have to stop the installation. For insulated buildings, garden rooms, and buildings with internal T&G finish, the building cannot be left on site if installation cannot go ahead. Because of the type of construction and materials used, the building and associated materials will need to be taken back to our premises. A charge equal to 150% of the original delivery and fitting fee, plus an additional £300 handling and storage charge, will apply. If you received free delivery and fitting, an aborted installation charge of £150 will apply, plus the additional £300 handling and storage charge. All such charges must be paid in full before a new installation date can be confirmed.

What happens if I have purchased an MCD EZ Base and the ground is not suitable?

EZ Bases must be pre-ordered and cannot be added on site. They are not suitable for every ground type. For example, they cannot be installed on ground that holds water, loose soil, flower beds, or compacted hardcore. There is also a maximum level tolerance of 30cm from the highest point to the lowest point. If the ground is not suitable for the EZ Base, the building may be left on site for self-assembly. In some cases, no return installation service will be offered. No refund will be due for delivery and installation charges already paid.

What happens if access is not suitable?

If access is not suitable or safe for our fitting team to carry out the installation, we may not be able to install the building. This can include narrow gaps, tight corners, steep steps, overhead restrictions, walls, fences, hedges, outbuildings, long carrying distances, unsuitable parking, or other obstacles not made known to us in advance. If this happens, the building may be left for self-assembly. In some cases, we may not be able to offer a return installation service.

What happens if there is nowhere suitable to park near the installation site?

Our fitting team must be able to park as close as possible to the installation site. We cannot drive across fields, soft ground, or boggy ground. If there is nowhere suitable to park nearby, the installation may be abandoned and the building may be left for self-assembly.

What happens if I need to change the installation date?

Your fitting date is planned around building sizes, locations, travel times, and any dates you have already told us to avoid. Once your fitting date has been agreed and booked into the diary, it cannot be changed. If you later say the agreed date is no longer suitable, any outstanding balance will still remain due and payable. The building will still be delivered on the agreed date, but it will be left for self-assembly. No refund will be due for any delivery and installation charges paid.

What happens if I have not paid the balance on time?

Any outstanding balance must be paid within the timescales set out in our terms. If it is not, your delivery and fitting will not take place. Storage charges of £10 per day will begin to apply until the balance is cleared and a new installation date is arranged. A rearranged delivery and installation charge will also apply at 150% of the original delivery and fitting fee. If you received free delivery and fitting, a charge of £150 will apply.

What happens if I am paying by finance and the installation cannot be signed off?

If you are paying by finance, you are still responsible for the full balance of your order if the installation cannot be completed or signed off for reasons that are not our fault. This could include where the base is not suitable, access is not suitable, the building is left for self-assembly, the building has to be returned to our premises, or sign-off is refused even though the building has been installed as ordered and there is no genuine fault. If the finance company does not release the balance to us for a reason that is not our fault, you must pay that outstanding balance directly to us. You will also remain responsible for any other charges that apply under our terms, including handling, storage, return transport, aborted installation, or reinstallation charges. If payment is not made, we may take legal steps to recover the amount owed. This does not affect your rights if there is a genuine problem with the building or with our installation.

What happens if the building is left for self-assembly?

If the building is left for self-assembly, MCD will not accept liability for improper installation carried out by the customer or anyone else. Any adjustments that would normally form part of our fitting service, such as bolt repositioning, roof sheet alteration, or door levelling, will become the responsibility of the person carrying out the assembly.

What happens if my building is installed on a wet day?

Wet weather does not usually stop installation, but it can mean the inside of the building is damp when fitted. Buildings may also arrive damp if they have been stored in wet conditions before installation. If this happens, you will need to allow the building to dry out fully before using it or carrying out any further internal work such as insulation or lining. The best way to do this is to allow good natural airflow during dry weather by opening doors and windows where possible. You may also need to reseal windows once the building has fully dried out.

What happens if my timber changes after installation?

Timber is a natural material and your building will settle over time. This means you may notice minor shrinking, swelling, twisting, movement, small splits, knots, open grain, or gaps as the timber responds to weather conditions. These are normal characteristics of timber and are not faults.

What happens if doors or windows need adjusting later on?

As the building settles, some minor adjustments may become necessary to doors, bolts, hinges, windows, or uPVC doors and windows. These adjustments are classed as normal maintenance and are the customer’s responsibility.

What happens if I do not treat the building?

All of our timber is pressure treated, but that does not make it waterproof. Your building still needs to be coated with a suitable weatherproof preservative once the timber is fully dry. We recommend doing this within 8 weeks of installation, following the product manufacturer’s instructions. Not doing so may affect the long-term condition of the building and your warranty.

What happens if I do not leave enough space around the building?

We always recommend leaving enough room around the building for safe installation, future maintenance, and airflow. For example, an 8ft wide building will not fit into an 8ft wide gap. If there is not enough space, installation may not be possible.

What happens if I ask the fitters to install onto an unsuitable base anyway?

If your base is only slightly unlevel, we may, at our discretion, agree to continue with the installation. If we do, you may be asked to sign a disclaimer on site. This will confirm that you have been told the base is not suitable and that any warranty relating to problems caused by the base will be void. You may also see visible chocks or raised points under the building, and any additional finishing work, such as skirting, will be your responsibility. This only applies where the base is slightly unlevel. It does not apply where the base is too small, significantly unlevel, unprepared, unstable, or where access is unsuitable.

What happens if I sign the building off and then report something later?

You or someone attending on your behalf will be asked to sign the fitter’s job sheet to confirm that the installation and build quality are satisfactory. If a return visit is then needed for something that could have been dealt with during the original installation, a return charge may apply, with a minimum charge of £80.

What happens if I have questions before installation day?

Please contact us before installation day if you are unsure about your base, access, space around the building, or any other practical point. In many cases, a quick check beforehand can avoid delays, extra charges, or the building being left for self-assembly.
